Editorial notes:
Description: This 1967 pamphlet serves to document concerns about the degrading health and increasing pollution plaguing Rock Creek Park. It was created by the U.S. Department of the Interior in order to spread the message about the hazards a growing city can pose to the surrounding environment. The pamphlet contains numerous photographs displaying the traumatic effect Washington, D.C. has had on one of the few remaining oases in the capital area. The greater importance of this document to Washington, D.C. history lies in its documenting the effort to maintain the elegance of the capital city. Additionally, The Creek and the City displays the conflict between man and nature which frequently is a subject of debate in the political institutions of the United States.
